ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (11/15/2011)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program allows Pennsylvania businesses to redirect state tax dollars to nonprofit institutions. Elizabethtown College, as an Educational Improvement Organization, recently received two donations and will utilize the funds to expand the educational programming of its Science in Motion (SIM) program, which helps public and private secondary schools augment their science education efforts.
Waste Management of Lancaster, Pa., presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to the College; Phillips Group and Phillips Capital of Middletown, Pa., presented a check in the amount of $15,000. Wendy Martin, site director of the SIM program, accepted the donations on behalf of Elizabethtown College.
"These donations will be used to purchase equipment and materials that will expand the range of labs that SIM can offer to schools," said Martin. "EITC funds ensure that the van remains on the road helping schools enhance their science programs."
Through EITC donations, and other pooled resources, the program delivers high-tech science equipment to schools, offers the services of a mobile educator, provides a staffed preparation center and organizes various professional development programs for teachers. The SIM program provides these services to Lancaster, Lebanon, Berks and Schuylkill counties.
