Sarah Barnes of Elizabethtown, Pa. is the recipient of the 2013 Aston/Donan School of Education Scholarship. This award is an endowed scholarship established by Patrick M. Donan, J.D., Millersville University class of 1985 in honor of his mother, Barbara Donan, and in memory of his grandmother, Elizabeth Aston. It is to be awarded to an incoming freshman from Lancaster County who is pursuing a degree in the teacher preparation program of the School of Education at Millersville University. Barnes earned a class rank placing her in the top of her class of 314 students at Elizabethtown Area High School. She completed several courses at the Honors and advanced levels. She was a member of the Spanish Club and the National Honor Society in 11th and 12th grades and on the honor roll throughout high school. Barnes is a dancer and was active in theater throughout high school, and she also served as a volunteer assistant teacher to a dance instructor. In her junior and senior years of high school she volunteered as an intern to work with seven and eight year-olds teaching them topics in science and reading skills. She also enjoys volunteering with foster family events. Barnes will be an incoming freshman in the fall at Millersville University, studying mathematics.
