Ellis Pretlow Chosen Public Relations Chair for Washington and Lee University's 2012 Mock Convention

LEXINGTON, VA (07/30/2010)(readMedia)-- Ellis Pretlow, of Suffolk, Va., a member of the class of 2012 at Washington and Lee University School of Law, was selected Public Relations Chair for Washington and Lee University's 2012 Mock Convention scheduled to be held in January, 2012.

During the Mock Convention, student delegates attempt to predict the presidential nominee of the political party currently out of power in the White House; in 2012 the Convention will try to select the Republican primary candidate. The traditional event is held every four years.

W&L first conducted a mock convention in 1908 and has correctly selected presidential primary candidates 18 out of 24 times, with only two errors since 1948. The Convention is billed as the nation's most accurate mock convention. Over the years, it has been described by Time magazine as the "biggest and boomingest" of all amateur gatherings. Newsweek, not to be outdone, promptly dubbed it "the most realistic" student conclave. It has been applauded on the floor of the U.S. Senate as an "outstanding practical experiment in politics."

W&L has in the past received coverage ranging from the Washington Post to live gavel-to-gavel broadcasts on C-SPAN. The website for the upcoming convention, which is www.mockconvention.org, will be updated as the 2012 convention gets nearer.

Pretlow, a graduate of the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, is the daughter of Mr. Joshua Pretlow of Suffolk.
