Elmira College Welcomes New Faculty

ELMIRA, NY (09/12/2018) A new academic term is underway at Elmira College, and along with the new students, the College welcomed several new faculty members.

Krista Barzen-Hanson, officially joined the EC faculty in January as an assistant professor of chemistry. She earned her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry at Oregon State University and completed a postdoctoral program at Cornell University prior to heading down Rte. 13 to Elmira. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, her teaching assignments include general chemistry and analytical chemistry.

Philip Kovac brings the other half of Oregon's great rivalry to Elmira, coming to the College from the University of Oregon where he earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry. In addition to teaching general chemistry and physical chemistry he will be teaching physics. In an earlier stage of his life Phil lived for about ten years in Apalachin, NY.

Adam Giambrone joins the EC faculty as an assistant professor of mathematics. A graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, he earned his Ph.D. at Michigan State University and taught at the University of Connecticut for three years.

Tina Gain joins the College's nursing faculty as an assistant professor of nurse education with a specialty in OB/GYN and midwifery. A native of the Northern Tier, Tina earned her diploma in nursing at Robert Packer Hospital and her Master's at SUNY Stony Brook. She comes to Elmira with extensive professional experience in North Carolina and Oregon.

Tammy Bocek, assistant professor of nurse education, earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Mansfield University. Her previous experience includes serving as assistant director of resident care at ELCOR in Horseheads and Program Manager for Patient Safety at the Guthrie Clinic in Sayre.
