Emily Blackner of Perry Hall Wins Emil J. C. Hildenbrand Memorial Medal

CHESTERTOWN, MD (06/10/2013)(readMedia)-- Washington College is pleased to announce that Emily Blackner '13 of Perry Hall, MD, has been named the recipient of the Emil J. C. Hildenbrand Memorial Medal. The Medal is awarded to the graduating senior "who attains the highest average in English during the four years of study."
Blackner graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in English and minors in political science and creative writing at Washington College's 230th commencement ceremony this May. On campus, Blackner served as the news editor of the student newspaper, The Elm, vice president of Sigma Tau Delta English honor society, president of the College Democrats, a member of the Campus Christian Fellowship and an intern with the Office of College Relations and Marketing. She was a Presidential Fellow and member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Pi Sigma Alpha political science honor society. She was also one of five finalists for the Sophie Kerr prize, the largest undergraduate prize for literature in the United States.
After graduation, Blacker began working as an editorial assistant for the East County Times in Essex, MD.
Founded in 1782 under the patronage of George Washington, Washington College is a private, independent college of liberal arts and sciences located in colonial Chestertown on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
