NEWARK, DE (09/18/2012)(readMedia)-- University of Delaware women's soccer freshman forward Emily Market was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, after scoring her first collegiate goal in the Blue Hens 1-0 victory over Long Island over the weekend.
William and Mary senior midfielder, Molly Schaffer, joined Market in the CAA weekly honors as the league's Player of the Week.
Market tallied her first collegiate goal from a helpful assist by senior Melissa Pennington which became the eventual game-winning knock as she found the back of the net from 12 yards out in the 35th minute of the first half in Delaware's 1-0 win at defending NEC champion LIU-Brooklyn on Sunday.
The Holland, Pa. native joins the UD quartet of Gina DiTaranto, Anna Lenczyk, Dianna Marinaro and Ali Miller with goals scored on the season. Market's goal helped the Hens to a 3-2 road record in non-conference action this season.
The weekly honor is the first for Market and first weekly CAA honor for the University of Delaware women's soccer team this season.
UD's last CAA weekly honor was last year, when forward Ali Miller was named October 31st Player of the Week. The last Rookie of the Week for Delaware was in 2010, when Shannon Kearney garnered Rookie of the Week honors on September 6th.
Market and the Blue Hens begin their CAA schedule this week with a pair of home matches. On Friday, September 21 at 7 p.m UD will host Towson and on Sunday, September 23, battle George Mason at Delaware Mini Stadium.
