ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (03/05/2014)(readMedia)-- According to

Emmy Award-winning musician and author Peter Buffett

"life is what you make it." And, as a philanthropist, author, composer and professional musician, with a career that spans three decades, he is a shining example of his own testimony.

Buffett's music, in the style of Simon and Garfunkel, along with stories of his life and experiences, are shared at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, as part of the Elizabethtown College Scholarship and Creative Arts Day.

"Life Is What You Make It: A Concert & Conversation with Peter Buffett" is a live performance with Buffett on piano and musical accompanist Michael Kott on cello. The multimedia presentation, held in the College's Leffler Chapel and Performance Center, takes the audience on a journey from Buffett's discovery of the piano, to writing for commercials and films, through to his current philanthropic work with the NoVo Foundation.

The performance is a live companion to Buffett's book, "Life Is What You Make It," which debuted at No. 4 on the New York Times Best Seller Hardcover Advice list. In addition to performing his music, Buffett plans to discuss the importance of each person defining his or her own path in life. With no regard for wealth or background argues Buffett, son of American investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett, what we give back to society is the most important thing that shapes and defines us as individuals.

Following the performance, Buffett is available in Leffler's McCormick Gallery to sign his book.

The musician began his career composing commercials and making logos and was involved in the early days of MTV. He scored the "Fire Dance" scene in the 1990 Oscar-winning film "Dances with Wolves" and composed music for the "The Scarlet Letter" and the miniseries "500 Nations," produced by Kevin Costner. Since the mid-1980s Buffett has released 16 recordings and now owns two independent recording labels. In 1999, he won an Emmy for his score for the documentary "Wisconsin: An American Portrait." His more recent music has taken on a soft and progressive rock sound similar to Simon and Garfunkel or Beck.

Buffett's current venture, "Life is What You Make It," is available in paperback. It has sold almost half a million copies worldwide and has been translated in more than 15 languages. In "Life...," Buffett writes about the importance of finding one's passion, taking up the reins of one's destiny, and living life to its fullest.

Cost of the performance is free.
