Bielema is a retired teacher and has made a huge impact on youth in her community. Esther is still active in teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School as well as bringing individuals who are unable to drive to worship on Sunday mornings.

"Esther is always very helpful and community-minded. She truly loves her community and is always quick to say 'yes' to anyone," said Shirley Petschauer, Bielema's nominator. Bielema's generosity and dedication to her community makes her a well-deserving Iowan of the Day.

Bielema's day of recognition will be Thursday, August 9 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.
