ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (12/02/2011)(readMedia)-- Evelyn Brooke of Bel Alton, Maryland, is the recipient of a Charles County Scholarship at St. Mary's College of Maryland. The scholarship was established by the Charles County Commissioners and private donors to benefit academically talented students from Charles County with financial need.
Brooke, Class of 2012, is majoring in biology with a minor in philosophy. She is a nursing aid at Chesapeake Shores Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the college's Relay for Life publicity co-chair, and intern at Food and Water Watch, and a volunteer at the Greenwell State Park therapeutic horseback riding program. Brooke is interested in food issues, such as sustainable farming and ethical agriculture, and intends to pursue a career at a non-profit focusing on food issues or work as a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) physician's assistant.
St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
