POTSDAM, NY (09/30/2010)(readMedia)-- The Crane Symphony Orchestra will present works by Shostakovich and Dvorak in an Evening Concert Series performance at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, in Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.
Conducted by Kenneth Andrews, the orchestra will perform "Festive Overture, Op. 96," a 1954 work by Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich, as well as "Lollapalooza," a 1995 piece by John Adams. Finally, the talented student musicians will present the four movements of Antonin Dvorak's 1889 "Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Op. 88."
The Crane Symphony Orchestra is a premier, 90-member performing ensemble at the Crane School of Music. The ensemble performs great orchestral masterworks from the standard and contemporary orchestral literature. Founded in 1839, the Crane Symphony Orchestra is the second oldest college orchestra in the country.
