POTSDAM, NY (04/08/2025) (readMedia)-- The Northern Area Health Education Center (NAHEC) and the Seaway Valley Prevention Council (SVPC) are partnering with SUNY Potsdam to host the third annual Public Health Day on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Barrington Student Union on the SUNY Potsdam campus.
This year's theme, "Building Healthier Communities: A Collective Responsibility," underscores the importance of collaboration in addressing public health issues and improving the well-being of individuals and communities throughout the North Country.
Registration for the event begins at 8:00 am, and the event will conclude at 3:00 pm. The event will include keynote talks, student presentations, a mentorship roundtable, and breakout sessions led by local professionals and public health agencies.
The day will include keynote talks from Erin Streiff, Director of Public Health at St. Lawrence County Public Health Department, and Chelsea Dodd, Director of Prevention Services at the Seaway Valley Prevention Council, who will speak about the importance of working together to support healthier communities. Student attendees can join a mentorship roundtable to connect with professionals in the field and learn about different public health careers. Breakout sessions will cover important topics like mental health, collective responsibility, and substance use. Local high school students and current SUNY Potsdam students will share their internship/research experiences and class projects during a poster session. The day will conclude with the Seaway Valley Prevention Council leading hands-on activities and sharing resources focused on health, wellness, and prevention.
Public Health Day is open to high school and college students, faculty, community members, and professionals interested in public and community health.
