Captain Ann "Darby" Reynolds Receives Alumni Award of Merit from her alma mater Saint Anselm College

MANCHESTER, NH (11/27/2013)(readMedia)-- Exeter resident Captain Ann "Darby" Reynolds was one of five recipients to receive an Alumni Association Award from her alma mater, Saint Anselm College on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Captain Reynolds of the class of 1961, received the Alumni Award of Merit for her life-long devotion to the nursing profession and for providing quality health care.

Reynolds was a member of the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps for 26 years, serving in Vietnam from March 1964 to March 1965. On Christmas Eve in 1964 the officers' quarters where Reynolds resided were bombed, and despite being injured herself, Reynolds immediately went to the hospital to treat the victims.

In recognition of being injured during war and for her courageous service to our country, Reynolds was one of four Navy nurses who received the Purple Heart during the Vietnam War.

After the war, Reynolds continued to administer care as well as influence young people to consider entering the field of nursing. Reynolds then earned senior rank as Captain and served as Chief Nurse at a number of Navy hospitals.

The Saint Anselm College annual alumni awards dinner acknowledges Saint Anselm alumni, faculty, staff, and special friends for their outstanding achievements in their chosen field or contributions to the college.
