Experience teaches empathy, collaboration: Geisinger medical students complete rotation in Guatemala

Fifteen Geisinger School of Medicine students recently returned from Guatemala, where they completed a week-long rotation with Friends of San Lucas Mission - marking the second Geisinger-led trip to the region and a significant milestone in the institution's growing global health program. The students staffed pop-up clinics in rural communities, caring for more than 130 patients across five underserved communities in five days. Conditions treated ranged from chronic disease and nutritional deficiencies to pediatric infections and vision problems. Several students also donated eyeglasses collected prior to the trip, providing lasting benefits to patients with visual impairments.
