Fall concert events highlight faculty performers

Elizabethtown College musical line-up begins Sept. 22

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (09/13/2014)(readMedia)-- Elizabethtown College's Department of Fine and Performing Arts, Music Division, kicks off the Monday Series Concerts season with an All-Faculty Recital. The free performance of solo and ensemble music for instruments and voice takes place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center.

Additional Monday Series Concerts, all in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center, include Grammy Award-winning guitarist and Elizabethtown College Artist in Residence, David Cullen, in "Old and New," a solo guitar recital, featuring works by John Dowland and J.S. Bach. The program, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, also features new works by noted American guitarist Ralph Towner and Elizabethtown College music professor James Haines. At 7:30 p.m. Monday Oct. 20, soprano Anne Gross and guest pianist Thomas Bandy present a recital of songs by Gioacchino Rossini, Joseph Marx, Viteslava Kapralova and others.

Additional College concerts, all free and in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center, include:

• 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 -- College Choral and Jazz Band Homecoming Concert featuring compositions by College alumni.

• 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 – Faith Shiffer, adjunct instructor of clarinet and saxophone, assisted by Justin Badgerow, Stephanie McCullough, Todd Fulginiti, Grant Moore, David Pedrick and Stephen Shiffer, presents a multiple woodwind performance exploring unique instrumental combinations.

• 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 -- College Concert Choir, Wheatland Chorale and the College Orchestra present Bob Chilcott's "Requiem." Tickets for this concert are available online at http://wheatlandchorale.org.

• 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 -- College Orchestra celebrates fall with a variety of classical and contemporary pieces.

• 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 – compositions featuring Elizabethtown College student conductors plus a world premier highlight this Symphonic Band concert.

• 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24 -- Student Chamber, a select group of students perform music for voice, piano, wind and string instruments. This concert is in Zug Recital Hall.

• 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 -- Fine and Performing Arts Holiday Concert focuses on music performances and readings by students and faculty members. This concert is in Zug Recital Hall.
