BURLINGTON, VT (06/11/2010)(readMedia)-- Faribault resident Davin Sokup, who graduated this year from the University of Vermont with a major in art history, is the 2010 recipient of the Elmer Nicholson Achievement Prize. The award recognizes a student for whom "emergence" is an overriding characteristic.
Sokup, who also completed a minor in archaeology, has worked diligently to transform UVM in his many activities across campus. He has been involved as an art curator in the Davis Center, as a volunteer for HomeShareVT, as the director of arts and advertising for the Translating Identities Conference, as a member of the President's Commission on LGBT Equity, and as a member of Free2Be.
Davin captured his UVM experience with these words: "Through everything, to keep a kind heart in any setting is the greatest accomplishment one can make."
The award was announced at the University of Vermont's 206th Commencement ceremonies on May 23, where some 2,411 students were awarded a variety of bachelor's degrees, an estimated 514 advanced degrees and certificates were awarded by the UVM Graduate College and approximately 102 women and men took the oath of Hippocrates following the awarding of their M.D. degrees.
