Fidelis Care Helped Set the Thanksgiving Table for 7,000 Needy Families

QUEENS, NY (11/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Fidelis Care, the New York State Catholic Health Plan, wishes to extend a special thank you to nearly 600 of the company's community partners, who helped Fidelis Care put a nutritious Thanksgiving meal on the tables of more than 7,000 of New York's neediest families.

During this time of gratitude, it is important to remember that there are families who struggle daily to put food on their tables. With this in mind, Fidelis Care works with its community partners every holiday season to identify families in need throughout the state. These partners include, among others, Catholic Charities offices across the state, food pantries, community outreach organizations, hospitals, and doctors' offices.

In turn, the community partners distribute $15 coupons, donated by Fidelis Care, that can be applied toward a turkey, or other food items the family may require. The coupons are redeemable for other food items to help each family celebrate the holiday season according to their cultural, ethnic, or religious traditions.

"We appreciate this opportunity to work with Fidelis Care in serving those in need within our community," said Deputy Executive Director, Jeannette Spaulding of Schoharie County Community Action Program, Inc. (SCCAP). "The Turkey Voucher program is just one example of how Fidelis Care works with organizations such as SCCAP to make a difference in people's lives. SCCAP passed along the Turkey Vouchers to Catholic Charities of Schoharie County in support of their 23rd Annual Thanksgiving Gift Basket event."

Members are covered for regular checkups, preventive care, routine screenings, hospital and emergency care, eye exams, dental care, and more.
