STAUNTON, VA (11/05/2010)(readMedia)-- The Celebration of Holiday Lights in Gypsy Hill Park includes a "Field of Deer" in honor of or in memory of people who are dear to us. The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department makes available the secure area of Gypsy Hill Park Pool for The Field of DEER display. This special area of the Park, provides a great way to honor those we cherish or memorialize loved ones and friends. In 2009, there were eighty plus DEER. This year promises more, with added pre-lit Trees accentuating the beauty of The " Field of DEER". In past years over thirty thousand visitors has circled the Park. We encourage you to participate and thank you for all words of encouragement and support. For information regarding, rules, how to participate etc. please visit celebrationoflights.org.

This holiday season, don't forget old acquaintances, family and friends. Take a moment to honor a loved one or remember a former friend or family member. Participants provide a buck, doe, baby deer, or other lighted woodland creature to add to the display, which is located in the pool area at Gypsy Hill Park. The deer are displayed grazing through the area amidst Christmas trees and Christmas lights. Participants are given a one foot square tile to decorate and identify the person(s) being honored. There is no charge to be part of the display. Participants provide the deer and a 50-foot extension cord and will receive the deer, cord, and tile in return when the display ends.

The goal this year is to create a display with up to 100 deer to light up the holiday season. Registration forms, tiles, ID tags for the deer, and other information is available now at the Parks & Recreation Main Office at Montgomery Hall Park. Deer with an attached ID tag, extension cords, and decorated tiles should be brought to the Gypsy Hill Pool between 8 am and 10 am, November 22 to November 29.
