Fighting Tiger football set to host Bethel University for Homecoming 2018

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (10/02/2018) (readMedia)-- Campbellsville University football caps off Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 6 as the Tigers play host to Bethel University at 7:01 p.m. ET.

Kickoff between the Tigers and Wildcats was moved to one minute past the top of the hour to honor the late head coach, Ron Finley. This tradition started in 2017 and will be respected every year after.

Finley started the program in 1987, and he was a stickler for the motto, "If you are early, you're on time and if you are on time, you are late." He used this reverse psychology on his players and never started a practice at the top or bottom of the hour.

The Tigers have multiple local products who have excelled on the gridiron this season. Taylor County High School product John Chewning has been a three-year starter for the Tigers on the offensive line, while Austin Hash has made his presence felt at the linebacker position this year.

Kendon Young, a fellow Campbellsville High School graduate with Hash, has become one of the most dynamic players in the Mid-South Conference. Young earned All-Conference honors last season and is well on his way to getting the same mention this year.

In addition, Davonte Cubit is seeing action on the Tiger defense during his rookie season after graduating from Campbellsville High.

Campbellsville is seeking to win its first Homecoming contest since the 2015 season when the Tigers defeated University of Pikeville, 42-34. CU has lost the previous two – Bethel University in 2016 (59-53) and Georgetown College in double-overtime last season, 31-24.
