Fishkill, N.Y., student receives Foot Locker Scholarship

RALEIGH, NC (10/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Saint Augustine's University senior Dawaun Dawson is the recipient of a $5,000 scholarship from Foot Locker Foundation, Inc. for the fall 2012 semester. Dawson is a senior accounting major from Fishkill, N.Y. Dawson was invited to speak at the 12th annual "On Our Feet" gala held Oct. 16 at New York City's Gotham Hall.
During the gala, Dawson discussed his academic experiences, career goals and how the scholarship allowed him to just focus on being a student at Saint Augustine's University. This year, he is serving as the first president of WEBD (Working to Educate, Build and Develop), a non-profit designed to link minority students to mentors and networking opportunities with members of the corporate community.
Executives from the sports industry, professional athletes, and celebrities, donning traditional black-tie attire while sporting their favorite pair of sneakers, joined footwear companies including, Nike, adidas, Reebok, and Converse, to name a few, to lend their support to this important cause. Celebrity guests, including Carmelo Anthony (NY Knicks), gymnast Gabrielle Douglas (2012 Olympic Gold Medalist), Tony Gonzalez (Atlanta Falcons), Michael Boley (NY Giants), and Matthew Morrison (Singer, Actor, Glee), were among those who attended the evening's festivities.
Foot Locker Foundation, Inc. has partnered with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to fund this scholarship program for high school seniors or students attending or planning to attend a UNCF member college or university.
