SPRINGFIELD, MA (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- Shawn M. Fitzpatrick of Ballston Lake, NY, has received the CHAMPS/Life Skills Award of Excellence at Western New England University. Fitzpatrick is a senior graduating with a degree in Sport Management. Western New England honored the winners of the 2012 Cocurricular Awards during a ceremony on April 28.
The CHAMPS/Life Skills Award of Excellence is given to a student who best exemplifies the ideals of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program and demonstrates good academic standing, has made a significant impact on his/her team(s), and demonstrated good citizenship.
Developed by the NCAA, CHAMPS/Life Skills program was created to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the context of higher education. CHAMPS stands for Challenging Athletes' Minds for Personal Success. The program provides experiences and services designed to develop well-balanced lifestyles and encourage growth in decision-making, planning, and fulfillment of career and life goals. The five commitment areas of CHAMPS include academic excellence, athletic excellence, personal development, career development, and commitment to service.
