Flagler College students, faculty and staff celebrated the 45th anniversary of the College with a Founders Day celebration on the West Lawn.

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (09/26/2013)(readMedia)-- Flagler College students, faculty and staff celebrated the 45th anniversary of the College with a Founders Day celebration on the West Lawn.

Guests took part in games and activities, were served food and posed for a group photo to be placed in a time capsule for the class of 2039.

"It was so nice to be able to celebrate our great College and for students, faculty, and staff to be able to gather in a social setting," said the College's Director of College Relations Laura Stevenson Dumas. "It is very important to remind students and employees of where we came from and how much we have accomplished in 45 short years."

Flagler College was founded in 1968 and is named for Henry Morrison Flagler, a Gilded Age industrialist, railroad pioneer and partner with John D. Rockefeller in Standard Oil.

In 1888, Flagler built the Hotel Ponce de Leon, his first in a series of luxury resorts along Florida's east coast. A masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance architecture and the first major poured-in-place concrete building in the United States is now known as Ponce de Leon Hall. This National Historic Landmark serves as the centerpiece for the Flagler College.
