Flagler College students 'Make a Difference' in community

More than 30 Flagler College students participated in "National Make A Difference Day” recently, helping to renovate two local homes.

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (11/14/2012)(readMedia)-- More than 30 Flagler College students participated in "National Make A Difference Day" recently, helping to renovate two local homes.

In conjunction with the St Johns Housing Partnership, Flagler students worked on one home in West Augustine and another in Armstrong. Both homes were fully painted and were given minor repairs.

"Make A Difference Day really defines the word 'community,'" said Colby Eaton, a senior communications major at Flagler, who participated in the Oct. 27 event. "Knowing that we can impact a family just by building a ramp or fixing a porch, that's the best part.

The event was participated in by Flagler student campus clubs such as Phi Alpha Omega, Enactus, the Society for Advancement of Management and the HomeTeam Service Club.

"Flagler College students have a larger-than-life presence in St. Augustine and neighboring St. Johns County. We have students actively engaged with the Council on Aging, Habitat for Humanity, tutoring among the middle schools, and serving as role models and mentors to early-teens," said Ernest Driscoll, adjunct professor of business at Flagler College. "Our participation in 'National Make A Difference Day' was just another example of our students leaving this community a better place for their having been here."
