Flagler to hold Sunset Moonrise in the Solarium on June 23

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (06/21/2013)(readMedia)-- Flagler College will hold a Sunset Moonrise in the Solarium to view the full moon on Sunday, June 23, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door, and are first-come, first-served for 75 people.

Tickets are available for purchase at Flagler's Legacy inside the college's Rotunda, 74 King St., prior to the tour.

The Solarium, the fourth floor parlor atop the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, had been closed to the public for decades. Flagler recently completed a $2.3 million restoration of the space.

The Solarium boasts a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. Floor-to-ceiling windows on all four sides allow sunlight to pour into the vaulted space flanked by roof terraces and twin towers that rise above the St. Augustine skyline.

The Solarium's renovation completes the college's restoration of the Ponce, which is a National Historic Landmark. Built by Henry M. Flagler, industrialist, railroad pioneer and co-founder of Standard Oil, the Ponce first opened in 1888 and is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
