PAUL SMITHS, NY (11/02/2016)(readMedia)-- In just the second year since the revival of basketball at Paul Smith's College, the women's team has brought in Nicole Scholl, a former Division I coach, to its staff as an assistant this season.
Scholl spent six years as head women's basketball coach at SUNY Binghamton, a mid-major in the NCAA's highest level of competition, after serving nine years as an assistant on the team.
"She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program," said Bobcats head coach Dominique Boone. "That will be vital to our success."
Scholl went 68-115 at Binghamton, including a 19-12 mark in the 2010-11 season when the Bearcats finished top-20 nationally in both scoring defense and field goal percentage defense.
A former Division II player at Minnesota State University Moorhead, Scholl earned multiple all-conference honors and was elected into the Moorhead Hall of Fame in 2010. She's also coached at the high school level, leading Hastings High School in Minnesota to a state championship following her collegiate playing career.
Another former college basketball player and current Paul Smith's College instructor Bethany Garretson has also taken on a first-year assistant coaching position for the Bobcats this season.
The team kicks off its 2016-17 slate at St. Joseph's (Vt.) on Saturday, Nov. 5. The home opener will follow on Tuesday, Nov. 8, against Clinton Community College. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m.
