ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (09/04/2014)(readMedia)-- Chris Bashinelli
is on a perpetual cultural adventure. The activist, global explorer and actor, which included a role on "The Sopranos," follows his real passion to experience, firsthand, the way of life in the developing world.
Bashinelli, known as "Bash," brings his "Stories from the Stoop: From Brooklyn to the World" to Elizabethtown College at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in the College's Leffler Chapel and Performance Center. The United Nations moderator, international speaker, guest writer for Lonely Planet and National Geographic Young Explorer, uses tales from his life in Brooklyn and his extensive, immersion experiences abroad to inspire audience members to explore diversity beyond the local community and go boldly into this world believing anything is possible.
Bashinelli now uses media to bridge intercultural gaps worldwide, traversing the globe from Tanzania to Abu Dhabi as executive producer and host of the internationally recognized PBS series Bridge the Gap, on which he discovers what it's like to walk in someone else's shoes for one day.
He has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Dr. Jane Goodall and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. He has harvested buffalo with Native Americans, walked miles for clean water in Haiti, run from venomous bees in Uganda and worked side by side with individuals from across the globe.
His mission is to create a Culture of Compassion by sharing captivating stories that keep the audience laughing, listening and learning about different cultures.
The 28-year-old, who credits his late father's death as the defining moment that propelled him forward on his path, has appeared on TEDx, has interviewed some of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People on the Planet and is the youngest male ever to moderate the UN International Day of Peace.
His appearance at Elizabethtown College, sponsored by the Study Abroad Office and the Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking, is free.
