Former basketball star, Clemette Haskins, to speak at Campbellsville University

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (03/10/2011)(readMedia)-- Clemette L. Haskins, former standout basketball player who is a candidate for Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA), will be speaking at Campbellsville University's chapel Wednesday, March 23 at 10 a.m. in Ransdell Chapel, 401 North Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.
Haskins is a 2009 graduate of Louisville Presbyterian Theology Seminary where she obtained a Master of Divinity degree. While in seminary, she received the Burton Z. Cooper Prize honoring a student who demonstrated excellence in constructive, theological leadership.
Haskins also received The Fielding Lewis Walker Fellowship in Doctrinal Theology honoring the graduating senior who demonstrated special interest and competence in doctrinal theology.
Haskins was recently named as one of 12 Fellows chosen by the Department of Religion of The Chautauqua Institute in New York to engage topics on "Ethical Leadership" and "Sacred Spaces."
Haskins is a 1987 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a degree in broadcast journalism. She also has a Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts degree from the Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Arizona.
While Haskins is a theologian and a chef, she is most known for her days as a basketball player. While attending Warren Central High School, she was named Kentucky Miss Basketball and led her team to a 1983 state championship. She continued her basketball career at Western where she was a three time All-American and led her team to two consecutive Final Four appearances. In 2006 she was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Prior to the ministry, Haskins coached Division 1 women's basketball for ten years. She was assistant coach at St. Thomas University, The University of Minnesota and the University of Arizona before becoming the head coach at the University of Dayton in Ohio.
Haskins is the daughter of former National Basketball Association (NBA) player and coach Clem Haskins and Yevette Haskins of Campbellsville and the granddaughter of the late Columbus and Lucy Haskins and J.C. and Harriet Penick. She has a sister, Lori A. Haskins-Crook, and a brother, Brent A. Haskins.
Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through of a variety of informative speakers and presentations.
All chapel events are open to the public free of charge.
