LATHAM, NY (10/27/2010)(readMedia)-- Fort Drum resident Col. Eric J. Hesse, who serves as the Inspector General for the New York National Guard, and his son Dylan, a senior at Indian River High School, made the Army Ten-Miler Race held Sunday, Oct. 24 a family affair.
Dylan, who plays soccer and runs track at Indian River, challenged his father to run the race with him. The two finished the race at 1 hour 13 minutes for Dylan and 1 hour and 13 minutes for the older Hesse.
Hesse, who served in the 10th Mountain Division for 10 years in the Division Logistics section, the Division Support Command, and the 10th Sustainment Brigade, has served as the Inspector General of the New York National Guard since July of 2009. The National Guard inspector general is always an Active Duty officer.
Lisa Hesse, a substitute teacher in the Calcium and Evan's Mills school districts, and Dylan reside at Fort Drum while Col. Hesse serves at New York National Guard headquarters in Latham, outside Albany.
The Army 10-Miler, which marked its 26th running on Oct. 24, is the third largest road race in the world and is the U.S. Army's premier running event.
The course begins and ends at the Pentagon and runs through the nation's capitol. Military and civilian runners come from around the world to take part.
