ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (07/29/2013)(readMedia)-- The Institute on Political Journalism in Washington D.C. has accepted four Flagler College students into its summer internship program. This program gives students the opportunity to gain real-world experience working for companies in communications fields.
Through the program, Alexa Epitropoulos worked with the Hispanic Link News Service, Lois Goh and Alexis Mortenson with K-Global and Abigail Meyers with CRC Public Relations.
"It's very busy," Meyers said. "We work during the day, then go to classes at night, but it's been a great experience. They've hosted a lot of events where we can network with people in public relations and journalism."
In addition to working for these companies, participants attend evening classes at George Mason University in Washington, D.C. These students also received a total of $14,000 in scholarships.
The Institute on Political Journalism was founded in 1985 by The Fund for American Studies to help create a new generation of journalists who understand free-market principles and the foundations of a free society.
