Four Lady Cougars Named All-Region in Women's Soccer

BATAVIA, NY (11/05/2013)(readMedia)-- Four members of the Genesee Community College women's soccer team were recently named to the NJCAA Division III Region III 2013 Women's Soccer All-Region Team.

Sophomore forward Dana Hansen (Hilton, NY), freshman midfielder Ashley Makowski (Kendall, NY) and freshman goalkeeper Maddie Potter (Oakfield, NY) were named to the All-Region First Team. Freshman defender Sarah Loranty (Alexander, NY) was named to the All-Region Second Team.

Hansen scored a team-leading 14 goals this season and also added eight assists for a total of 36 points. She played in 15 out of 18 games this fall and accounted for the game-winning goal in four games.

Makowski played in all 18 games this fall for Genesee and scored 12 goals, including four game-winners. Her 12 goals were second most on the team and she also added 12 assists, tallying 28 total points.

Potter started in goal in 15 games. She allowed an average of just 0.94 goals per game and amassed a record of 12-2-1. She recorded seven shutout wins and had a save percentage that was better than 85%.

Loranty helped anchor the defense this season and led Genesee to eight shutout wins and a team goals against average of 1.37. Offensively, she scored one goal and had one assist, recording three points. She appeared in all 18 games this fall.

Genesee finished the season ranked fifth in the NJCAA National Poll and ended the season with a 13-4-1 overall record. The Lady Cougars advanced to the Region III Group B Finals, where they lost to SUNY Delhi, 3-2 in overtime.
