Franklin Bowers Receives Final Convocation Award at Hampden-Sydney College

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2013)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 25, Hampden-Sydney College senior Franklin Wilson Bowers received the Kearfott Stone Memorial Award, presented by Dr. R. David Salvage, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts. The Kearfott Stone Memorial Award, established in 1939 by the parents of Kearfott Stone '35, is presented to a student who has rendered outstanding service in the classroom to the cause of good music in the community.

A Patrick Henry Scholar, Franklin played varsity tennis and served as Chair of the College Activities Council. A mathematical economics major, Franklin graduated from Arendell Parrott Academy and is the son of Vinson & Nancy Bowers of New Bern.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
