DES MOINES, IA (10/14/2010)(readMedia)-- Adults 50 and older are invited to Des Moines University's Senior Health Fair for free health screenings on November 6, from 8 a.m. to noon.

In the Student Education Center, 3300 Grand Avenue, seniors can get free blood glucose, blood pressure and bone density screenings. Students and physicians will be doing a demonstration of osteopathic manual medicine and will offer manual treatments. Podiatric medical students will be screening for foot and ankle problems. Free medication reviews will be done for seniors who bring a list of their medications, for both prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Seasonal flu shots will also be available for a suggested donation of $15, but nobody will be turned away.

"The annual DMU Senior Health Fair is a great opportunity for older adults in the area to receive free health screenings and get information on topics pertinent to them," said Keely Cassidy, DMU anatomy student and coordinator of the fair. "It is also a wonderful chance for professional students in medicine, podiatry, law, pharmacy, psychology, physical therapy and physician assistant programs at Des Moines University, Drake University and Iowa State University to work together and interact with the community to provide the best approach to geriatric healthcare."

Des Moines University (DMU) offers this fair annually. It is organized by students in the Geriatrics Club and is supported by many DMU student groups and departments.

"We have many folks from around Des Moines that attend this fair every year," said Melissa Wilder, manager of community relations at DMU. "We're thrilled we can help people get the proper preventive care, regardless of budget."
