Free lecture series focuses on staying fit

DES MOINES, IA (03/20/2014)(readMedia)-- The Des Moines University Clinic is kicking off the Power Hour Series, a four-part lecture series focusing on health and fitness, on March 25. DMU Clinic physical therapists will present a variety of topics to help people of all ages live an active and healthy lifestyle.

"We have so many great experts and wonderful facilities on campus that this just made sense. The physical therapy clinic is sponsoring the series to promote activity while preventing or recovering from injuries," said Kari Smith, D.P.T., physical therapy clinic manager. "Plus, we're a teaching institution, so we love to share knowledge with our community."

All sessions begin at 6 p.m. and will be held in the in the Des Moines University Clinic, 3200 Grand Avenue. The following dates and topics are planned:

  • Tuesday, March 25 – "Get Moving, Sneaking Physical Activity Into Your Day"
  • Tuesday, April 8 – "Older Adults Staying Active and Healthy"
  • Tuesday, April 29 – "How to Deal with Plantar Fasciitis that Disrupts Your Exercise Plans"
  • Thursday, May 15 – "Training for Life, From the Couch to the Pavement"

The Power Hour Series is free and open to the public. For more information and to register, call 515-271-1717. Registration is not required, but is strongly encouraged.
