MORRISTOWN, NJ (05/10/2011)(readMedia)-- Thomas J. Altonjy of Frelinghuysen Township, N.J., has successfully defended his dissertation at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J., to earn his doctorate in educational leadership. Altonjy's dissertation is entitled, "A Socioeconomic Dilemma: A Study of a New Jersey "I" DFG District Where High Student Achievement Does Not Make the Grade."
"My experience in the doctoral program has been great," says Altonjy. "It has been a lot of work, but through it all, it has been a true learning experience and has better prepared me for my continuing career in education. I am a better equipped and knowledgeable administrator due to my work in the program and my training in servant leadership." Altonjy, who has served as assistant superintendent and director of curriculum and instruction at the Cedar Grove School District, has more than 30 years of experience in education. He and his wife Louanne have three children, Alexandra, Christopher, and Julianna.
The doctoral program at CSE, which is dedicated to preparing leaders who are committed to social justice and ethical practice, began in August 2007. "Integrated into all course work and learning activities are the central values and beliefs necessary for school leaders to function as morally purposeful stewards for their school communities," states Dr. John Crews, Ed.D., CSE educational leadership program chair. "This philosophy of servant leadership represents a major shift from the traditional paradigm of school leaders as managers of resources, which is so prevalent in today's practices."
