ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (09/15/2010)(readMedia)-- Erin Weed was called to the field of violence prevention and self-defense in 2001 after the murder of her friend, Eastern Illinois University sorority sister,Shannon McNamara. Weed abandoned her career in television production to study with the best anti-violence activists, personal safety specialists and self-defense experts in the world. Now a professional speaker, Weed also is author of "Girls Fight Back! The College Girl's Guide to Protecting Herself," is a certified self-defense instructor, and she is founder and chief executive officer of Fight Back Productions.

Presently on maternity leave, Weed sends Jaime Langton Esquire to Elizabethtown College Wednesday, Sept. 29, to present a young, hip and savvy approach to staying safe on campus. Langton, who holds a degree in Public Communication from Eastern Washington University, and is a graduate of Willamette University College of Law, knows from personal experience of the vulnerability of women on college campuses. Having dealt with a stalker at one point in her life, the exceptional speaker from Girls Fight Back teaches others how to handle similar situations. The Girls Fight Back website refers to Langton's self-defense moves as "fierce" or "spicy."

Sponsored by A Step Up, a division of the Office of Student Activities, Langton will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, in the K?V in the College's Brossman Commons.

The event is open to the public. Contact Heather Rhoads in the OSA office 717-361-1273.
