BATAVIA, NY (05/16/2014)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College first started offering classes in the Village of Arcade in the 1980s at the local Pioneer School District. The success of those early classes and programs lead to the opening of the Arcade Campus Center in 1994, a dedicated GCC teaching and learning facility located at 25 Edward Street. In the past 20 years, hundreds of students from the southern tier of New York State have earned thousands of college credits helping local residents through local access to higher education and positive pathway to successful careers in a wide array of fields and industries.
To celebrate the 20-year milestone, college administrators are planning a 20th Anniversary Celebration at the Arcade Campus Center on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. The event is FREE and open to the public. The Genesee Community College Foundation will also be sharing information about the Creating Our Future Together Campaign, which features scholarships for local students and an expansion project of the Batavia Campus.
The Arcade Campus Center has evolved in its two decades. A comprehensive renovation in 2002 increased capacity and brought expanded classrooms, two computer labs, SMART classrooms and videoconferencing. It also introduced an outdoor Memory Garden with a unique, student-designed and created sculpture as the center piece.
The Anniversary Celebration in August will include a salute to the flag ceremony, an exhibit highlighting the Campus Center's history, as well as an educational program featuring live birds presented by Wild Spirit Education of Delevan.
The community is invited to share memories and fun at the Arcade Campus Center. Discover why GCC is so much more in the Southern Tier.
