Background: Genesee Community College's Dansville Campus Center is excited to be part of Winter in the Village, and welcomes visitors for an Open House on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 9 a.m. to noon. The Campus Center plans to remain open through 5 p.m. that day as it participates in the community's annual Winter in the Village event, which kicks off the holiday season with activities throughout the Village including a visit from Santa, who will light up the trees at Church Park, next to GCC Dansville, at 5 p.m.

The day begins with the Campus Center Open House where visitors can tour the facilities and learn more about all the opportunities available to students of all ages. The Dansville Campus Center features modern science labs, a gymnasium, auditorium and art and ceramic studios.

Art students will show the works they've created this semester in an exhibit that will be on display in Clara's Commons, the gathering space at the campus center. The Student Art Show will feature works from Ceramics, Drawing and 2-Dimensional Drawing classes.

Cookies, cocoa and crafts for the kids will be available all afternoon in Clara's Commons. In addition, the College will welcome some vendors from the Arts and Crafts Show and Sale planned at Dansville Town Hall. "We're right across the street, so we're offering space to vendors when the Town Hall is full. So people can come and shop here," said Amy Churchfield, associate dean of GCC's Livingston County Campus Centers which includes Dansville and Lima.

A highlight of Winter in the Village is Santa's trip through town on a decorated fire truck which will take him to Church Park, next to the Dansville Campus Center. "He always stops and talks to every child," said Churchfield. "Then he lights up a whole sidewalk full of Christmas trees and it's just beautiful."

With weather uncertain, people are invited to warm up inside the Dansville Campus Center.

"We are super excited and looking forward to our students displaying their hard work and just connecting to the community," said Churchfield.
