GCC Lima Welcomes Homeschool Families

BATAVIA, NY (04/04/2014)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College Lima Campus Center invites homeschool families to a Homeschool Family Information Event on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 beginning at 4 p.m. Following the information session, there will be refreshments and music on the patio by the Ghost Riders from 6 -7:30 p.m. GCC's Lima Campus Center is located at 7285 Gale Rd., Lima, NY 14485.

More than 80 homeschool students attend GCC every semester. Homeschool students under the age of 18 have the opportunity to register for specified courses at GCC through the Accelerated College Enrollment (ACE) program at a reduced tuition rate. Homeschool students can earn the required 24 college credits for a New York State High School Equivalency Diploma and gain credits toward a college degree. GCC works closely with homeschool students to make sure they are placed in appropriate classes. In addition, homeschool students enjoy all the benefits of GCC facilities such as the library, fitness center, and career and transfer centers.

Homeschool and admissions experts will be on hand at the information event to provide additional details and answer any questions families may have. "Our goal is to help homeschool students easily acclimate to GCC," Dan Snyder, ACE and homeschool student specialist said. "We are invested in their success from the onset of the application right through to graduation. And beyond that, we can help them transfer to a four-year college for a bachelor's or higher degree." Most homeschool students pursue advanced degrees at four-year colleges or universities. One homeschool student who earned a degree from GCC in 2011 was recently accepted into a Ph.D. program at the University of Rochester.

Prior to the information night at the Lima Campus Center, representatives from GCC will be available to discuss the college's opportunities for homeschool students during the New York State Christian Parenting and Home Education Conference May 29 - 31, 2014 at Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Genesee Community College enrolls approximately 7,000 students at its main campus in Batavia and six Campus Centers in Albion, Medina, Arcade, Warsaw, Lima and Dansville. GCC also has a robust offering of online degrees and courses each semester. For those interested in the full college experience, College Village is adjacent to GCC's Batavia Campus offering a complete student residential community, with one- and two-bedroom apartment style suites. Two new buildings are currently under construction and will be open this fall. Learn more online at www.genesee.edu.
