GCC's Stone Named Regional Player of the Year for Second Straight Season

BATAVIA, NY (11/30/2016)(readMedia)-- For the second year in a row, GCC men's soccer forward William Stone (Little Hampton, UK) was recognized as the player of the year for Region III of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Also named an NJCAA All-American for the second straight year, Stone led the country and the region in total points with 66. He was third in the country in goals (23) and second in assists (20), both highest for Genesee this fall and first and second best in the region, respectively.

He played in and started 18 games this fall for the Cougars and was also named to the All-Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) First Team. During his two years at GCC, he totaled 134 points and 48 goals, both of which are school records for a career.

Genesee won the Region III District B title this year and advanced to its third-ever NJCAA National Tournament, reaching the national semifinals.

The Cougars played to a 16-2-2 overall record and were ranked in the NJCAA National Poll for all 11 weeks this fall, reaching as high as No. 3.
