Gary Fulton named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/20/2018) (readMedia)-- Des Moines, IA- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Gary Fulton of Marshalltown as an Iowan of the Day for the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Gary has dedicated countless hours to the betterment of his community. Serving for more than 20 years on the Marshalltown Trees Forever/Branching Out Committee, Gary plants trees every spring and fall. He also coordinates a children's garden every year at Pilgrim Heights, helping kids plant, care for, and harvest vegetables to be used for meals during the camps that are held there.

Gary also volunteers at the Iowa State Fair! He has helped to set up, judge and take down the horticulture building. Fulton also assists with Emergency Food Box and Knights of Columbus. Gary has been volunteering with the Iowa Veteran's Home since 2011. He accompanies residents to all sorts of activities, including meals on and off-site, music programs, the barnyard and the tractor show. Every Wednesday afternoon Gary escorts Catholic residents to and from the chapel for Word and Communion services and takes the Eucharist to residents who are unable to attend.

Gary's day of recognition will be on Tuesday, August 14 at the 2018 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 2:00 p.m. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
