Christian Reiller leads the Cougars offense with 94 points on the season

BATAVIA, NY (04/30/2013)(readMedia)-- Currently ranked No.2 in the NJCAA National Poll, the Genesee Community College men's lacrosse program has put together its most successful season in school history, and it's only just beginning.

The Cougars ran through the regular season with a 13-1 record, falling only to top-ranked Onondaga Community College, winners of six of the last seven NJCAA National Championships. Genesee captured the Western New York Athletic Conference title with a perfect 4-0 record in conference play and won the Region III Western Conference Championship before falling again to Onondaga CC in the Region III Championship this past weekend.

Genesee began the season as the fifth-ranked team in the country, but quickly rose to the second spot after defeating five teams in the top-ten of the National Poll. Early wins at No.3 Nassau Community College and at No.8 SUNY Delhi bumped the Cougars up to the third spot and set up a showdown against No.2 Community College of Baltimore County-Essex on April 5. Genesee battled back-and-forth with last year's national runner-up and knocked off the visiting Knights in a second overtime to overtake the No.2 ranking.

GCC is anchored by a defense that allows just 6.15 goals per game, second best in the NJCAA. Goalkeeper Brady Lawrence sports the second highest save percentage in the country, stopping better than 69% of the shots he's faced.

Jonathan Gill, an All-Conference Second Team member last season, leads Genesee with 49 goals this season. Fellow attacker Christian Reiller has tallied 94 points (47 goals and 47 assists), which is the fifth highest total in the NJCAA. The Cougars score an average of just under 16 goals per game, which is the fourth most in the country.

Genesee will enter the 2013 NJCAA National Tournament as the number-two seed, the highest seed in school history. They will have a bye until the National Final Four, which will take place in Garden City, NY at the campus of Nassau Community College on May 11th-12th.
