Dawn Hough, October Employee of the Month

BATAVIA, NY (10/27/2011)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Dawn Hough has been named October Employee of the Month. Since joining the GCC staff approximately five years ago, Dawn has become a tremendous asset to the College and to the Duplicating Center in particular. She assists the full-time operator, helping to meet the heavy demands of the department and to get the copy requests done quickly, correctly and efficiently. Dawn is always willing to step in when the full-time person is away and she willingly puts in extra hours when asked to do so. Dawn also shows a real team-oriented spirit with her willingness to help at the switchboard by providing lunch breaks and extra hours as needed. Her cooperative attitude is much appreciated and valued by the college community.

In her current position, Dawn's job responsibilities include making copies on a multi-function copy machine as well as other operating other equipment such as the laminator, folder and punch and comb binding units. Before coming to GCC, Dawn worked as a teacher's aide at Elba Central School and BOCES. She has also worked for Chapin Manufacturing, Kaufmann Footwear, Sylvania, Sterling Tents and Melton Shirt Factory.

"My favorite part of working at GCC is working with such great people," Dawn stated. "I love coming to work every day!"

Dawn resides in Elba with her husband Paul. Together they have two children, Sarah and Mike and one daughter-in-law, Rachel. Dawn also has two dogs, Zoey and Bella. Outside of work Dawn enjoys crafting, painting and sewing, and is a huge Buffalo Sabres fan!

Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Lorraine Briggs has been named October Student of the Month. Lorraine (23), exemplifies student leadership in her positions as chair of the Campus Activity Board and as a Student Government senator. She has great skill in conducting organized meetings and has the ability and talent for organizing and rallying people around a common cause. Lorraine is on the DECA advisory board and has helped to produce the annual fashion shows. She also works as a lab assistant in the computer lab and is always helpful to faculty, staff, and students, and even helps train new assistants. She maintains a positive attitude, serves as a great role model for her peers, and has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills.

A 2007 graduate of Nazareth Academy, Lorraine has a degree in Liberal Arts: History/Political Science and is currently a Fashion Merchandising major. She originally came to GCC for Theatre Arts and fell in love with the school when she visited an open house. She enjoys the friendliness of the GCC faculty and appreciates the one-on-one attention they provide through the small class sizes.

In the future Lorraine hopes to continue her education at a four-year school to earn a Bachelor's degree. Her dream job is to work in the bridal industry as both a store owner and a designer. She hopes to someday own her own bridal boutique and create period costuming on the side.

Lorraine has been the recipient of the Student Volunteer of the Month for GCC's Campus Activities Board, and last year she was given the chance to co-produce the bridal scene in the 30th Annual Fashion Show "A La Mode" at GCC. In the spring 2011 semester she was also nominated for the "Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities" award. She is an active member of the Business Forum Club, and is currently coordinating an ICE (In Case of Emergency) Campaign for the Spring Semester.

One of Lorraine's favorite aspects of attending classes at GCC is the family-like atmosphere that students and faculty have.

"It's like a huge family that cares what happens to one another with both life and academics, and family and learning are two of my absolute favorite things."

Lorraine lives in Rochester, NY and is the daughter of Deborah A. Briggs, and the late William R. Briggs, Jr. Her siblings include Tammy Borman, Kelly Wardman, Adam Wardman and Meghan Briggs.
