BATAVIA, NY (03/11/2013)(readMedia)-- The Genesee County division of Genesee Community College Foundation's annual campaign is underway and is being led by a team of outstanding community volunteers. Genesee's co-chairs this year are Diane Bonarigo, principal of Jackson Elementary School, and Donna Condello, community volunteer.
Rick Henry, vice president, Clark Patterson Lee and annual campaign chairperson, states: "The presence of the college in our community has remarkable promise for the future. It serves students of all ages in our region who might not otherwise achieve higher education or specialized training. Through our combined effort, we support academically talented students and encourage students to enter critical fields such as healthcare and technology.
"In addition to tuition, books and fees can increase the cost of college $500 to $600 each semester. We do not want a single qualified student to back away because of cost. Every avenue of financial help is explored with the student and sometimes the additional support provided by the Foundation makes the final step possible," Henry added.
The Foundation awarded over 542 scholarships to worthy and deserving Genesee Community College students last year, totaling over $276,000.
In addition to Rick Henry, Diane Bonarigo and Donna Condello, the following volunteers are helping with the Genesee Division this year: Rick Mancuso, Kerry Landfried, Yvonne Peck, Dave Cecere, Todd Masters and Marie Rose Credi.
Gifts may be sent to the Genesee Community College Foundation, One College Road, Batavia, NY 14020. For more information contact the Foundation (585) 345-6809 or foundation@genesee.edu.
The Genesee Community College Foundation was formed in the mid-eighties as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing service to and support of the College. Its thirty-member board of directors is comprised of business and civic leaders.
