February Employee of the Month, Ann Winters

BATAVIA, NY (03/03/2015)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Ann Winters has been named February 2015 Employee of the Month. Ann is a computer support technician in the Computer Services department at GCC. She is also an alumna.

Ann came to Batavia from her native Buffalo to attend GCC and earned her associate's degree in Computer Science from the College in 1975. She worked at Eastman Kodak as a business analyst/project lead handling a number of information technology related endeavors including the roll-out and implementation of a help desk for Kodak's research department.

Her help desk experience remains valuable today at GCC as she assists in that area and other projects where necessary. "Ann has great communication skills and is good at coordinating multiple projects at once," the College noted in naming her Employee of the Month. Her work supports many areas of computer services and telecom. "She does an outstanding job in all aspects of the Computer Services budget including planning, updating, facilitating, obtaining quotes and purchasing equipment and services for the College." Ann is always willing to lend a hand and never hesitates to take on additional duties.

Ann has worked at GCC for a total of 14 years, both part-time and full-time. She enjoys the College because of "the people at GCC – kind, helpful and supportive!" Ann is active in the community and has twice earned a "Woman of the Year" award (2009 & 2010) from the Batavia Business and Professional Women's Club.

Outside of work she enjoys her home and the life she shares with her wonderful husband, Wesley. They have two children, David who is married to Amber, and Kellie who is married to Jason McCaffery, and four grandchildren, Addison and Braeden Winters and new baby girl twins Sybil and Trudy McCaffery.

Genesee Community College is also pleased to announce Ryan Cooper has been named the February 2015 Student of the Month. A native of Akron, NY, Ryan, 21, is a 2012 graduate of Akron High School. He is pursuing a degree in Accounting.

A recipient of the Genesee Memorial Nursing Scholarship, Ryan is an excellent student both in and out of the classroom. He is a President's List honoree and has been nominated for a SUNY Chancellor's Award. He also serves as president of the honor society Phi Theta Kappa, is a member of the CEO (Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization) Club, an orientation leader and a tutor. He will have some of his artwork on display in the spring student exhibit in the Roz Steiner Art Gallery. Ryan also contributes to his greater community by coaching youth basketball. "He is an excellent role model to his peers," noted the College in naming him Student of the Month.

Ryan chose GCC because of its excellent accounting program and proximity to his home. He's found it to be a great fit for him and lists several favorite aspects of his GCC experience: "The small class sizes. Teachers are very friendly and approachable." He compliments the cleanliness of the buildings and has found it to be "well-structured and organized which makes finding classrooms easy."

Once he completes his accounting degree at GCC Ryan plans to transfer to the University at Buffalo to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in the field. His dream is to one day work for the state or federal government.

Ryan is the son of Robert and Dawn Cooper and has three siblings Andrew, Cory, and Lukas.
