Genesee Community College Students Suit Up for Recherché Fashion Show

BATAVIA, NY (04/06/2009)(readMedia)-- Fashion Merchandising students at Genesee Community College are suiting up for the 28th Annual Fashion Show entitled, Recherché. This show depicts exquisite, exotic and lavishly refined fashions inspired by the French term "recherché". Scenes from this year's production are as follows:

• Scene I - Fora Beleza "Outside Beauty" - Original designs and creations by Arielle Orikowski and Julie Maurer. Coordinators: Arielle Orikowski and Julie Maurer.
• Scene II - Boy Meets Girl - Men's and Women's fashions promenade down the runway. Fashions supplied by Kashes Closet, Ageizm and Bella Di Eva. Coordinator: Ashley Maxi.
• Scene III - Amuseruent tallie Mode "Fun Size Fashion" - Children's styles skip across the stage. Fashions supplied by Zumiez of Marketplace, Old Navy and Aeropostale of Greece Ridge and Wal-Mart of Batavia. Coordinator: Lauryn Owens.
• Scene IV - Diamond Dust - Fashion Accessories take center stage. Fashions supplied by Peebles of Batavia, Batavia Optical, Bellezza di Eva and Fashion Bug of Geneseo. Coordinators: Melissa Cup and Kiesha Ippolito.
• Scene V - La Vanteria - Men's wear and women's fine lingerie. Fashions supplied by Jack Greens Men's Shop, Hickey Freeman and Embrasse-MOI. Coordinators: Jillian Mediak, Jessica DiTroia, and Danielle Collins.
• Scene VI - Timeless Elegance - Women's styles focusing on floral prints. Fashions supplied by Thread and Delia's. Coordinator: Angelica Rouse.
• Scene VII - Mix Madness - Combination of original and store-provided styles. Fashions supplied by Delia's and Original Designs by Tati. Coordinators: Nicole Caruth and Tatiana Fisher.
• Scene VIII - Bravura "Brilliant Style" - Evening gowns and formal apparel fill the runway. Fashions supplied by Blushing Bride/Prom Paradise of Brockport, Maurices of Batavia, Men's Wearhouse of Greece Ridge, and Sue Maniace of Cookie Lee Fine Fashion Jewelry. Coordinator: Erica Weidner.
• Scene IX - Elegantes Hombres "Stylish Men" - Trendy men's wear walk the runway. Fashion supplied by Buckle of Walden Galleria. Coordinators: Katie Norton, Hannah Wheeler, and Alyssa DelPlato.
• Scene X - Zeitgeist - Street style with an international influence. Fashion supplied by Alexandrea H. Coordinators: Alexandrea Biermann, Kodi Molyneaux and Lyndsey Gruschow.
• Scene XI - il Massimo - Fashion throughout the years, from child to bride. Fashion supplied by Gap and Gap Kids of Marketplace, New York and Company of Marketplace, David's Bridal of Henrietta and Zip-Tor of Batavia. Coordinators: Kimberly VanOcker and Alana Santillo.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the program, the event continues to offer two shows scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, in the William W. Stuart Forum of the Batavia Campus. Mistresses of Ceremonies will be Jillian Mediak and Erica Weidner. Show commentators are Danielle Collins and Connor de Guehery.

A new addition to this year's production is a pre-show musical performance by InnerLoop, a contemporary a cappella group from Rochester, NY. They will be performing approximately 20 minutes before each show. For more information, visit their web site www.innerloopmusic.com.

"Each year the students bring something new, fresh and exciting." Rick Dudkowski, Genesee Community College's business professor who oversees the entire two-semester capstone project. "This year is no exception. I'm amazed every year at the commitment and talent that our students here possess."

The event combines the interests and academic pursuits of several other College departments as well. The College's Hospitality Management students work under Genesee instructor Amy Bowles to coordinate extensive 'front of house' operations such as refreshments, décor, door prizes, music, and the overall smooth coordination of the event.

Additionally, Genesee's Criminal Justice students and the Student Safety Patrol will be behind the scenes ensuring safety and security from the moment visitors arrive to the close of the evening, after all the runway lights are dimmed.

"The students in the newly established Student Safety Patrol will be a nice addition to this year's show," Barry Garigen, professor of Genesee's Criminal Justice program said. "The students learn hands-on what it means to work with the College's existing Public Safety Office to ensure a safe event for over a thousand people coming to campus on that day."
