WEST HARTFORD, CT (09/12/2012)(readMedia)-- George Lechner of Bristol, in the All-University Curriculum Program at the University of Hartford, was honored with a Gordon Clark Ramsey Award for Creative Excellence at the University's annual Faculty/Staff Kickoff on Wednesday Aug 29. The award recognizes the exemplary contributions of the University's adjunct and part-time faculty members and is presented for a proposed scholarly or creative project related to classroom teaching.

With student evaluations consistently ranging from 4.6 to 5.0 on a five-point scale, it is clear that Lechner more than meets the challenge of interdisciplinary teaching. His scholarship in, and passion for, the Italian Renaissance break through the most cynical of students, with evaluation reflecting respect, surprise, and, at times, a newfound enthusiasm for the Renaissance.

An authority on Italian Baroque art and symbolism, he contributed a chapter to Secrets of Angels and Demons, a book critiquing the 2000 Dan Brown bestseller, Angles and Demons. His expertise led to an appearance as a commentator in a documentary broadcast on A&E and the BBC examining Angels and Demons. He was also a commentator, researcher, and script consultant for a second documentary on the subject that aired on the History Channel. Most recently, he was an invited lecturer providing his expertise at two Yale University Talks.

For the past 20 years, Lechner has succeeded in engaging students across the University with outstanding scholarship and inspired talent.
