Georgia State University Student Interns at State Capital

Georgia State University student Shaista Niazi interned at the state capitol under the Georgia Legislative Internship Program. Niazi, of Sugar Hill, is a political science major in the College of Arts & Sciences.

The Georgia Legislative Internship Program assigns students to various House and Senate committees. Interns are allowed to learn about the legislative and policy process firsthand from inside the Gold Dome. In addition to gaining an inside view of the legislative process and how constituents are served, interns acquire marketable skills and professional work experience before graduation.

Niazi said her goal was "to gain new knowledge and a different perspective in politics" through the program.

Niazi was assigned to the State Institutions and Property Committee. Many of her duties included retrieving bills and resolutions, assisting with weekly newsletters, creating flyers, attending committee meetings, and helping to set up for events.
