Carthage Geoscience students Hailey Hays and Jenna Gunnink presented their Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) project at the annual meeting of the West Lakes Division of the Association of American Geographers in October.
In summer 2025, the two students utilized drone technology to record and analyze the health of vegetation at the Pine Dunes Forest Preserve in Antioch, Illinois, as part of their SURE project. Results of their research will be shared with the Lake County Forest Preserve so they can better implement management and growth strategies for the land. Matthew Zorn, Professor of Geospatial Science, served as their faculty mentor.
