Gerald Inman Named Iowan of the Day
DES MOINES, IA (08/07/2010)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Gerald Inman of Mechanicsville as an Iowan of the Day for the 2010 Iowa State Fair.
Gerald has been an active member of Lions of Iowa for 33 years and is a strong believer in service. He has served in many aspects of his community beyond just being a Lion. Gerald has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America, St. Mary's Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. Through the Lion's Club, Gerald also serves as a photographer for Iowa KidSight, a vision screening program. He also serves as the trainer for the program in his district. Recently, he was appointed the Project Director of Iowa KidSight for 2010-2013.
Gerald has also dedicated over 35 years to serving on the Stanwood Ambulance Service as a volunteer emergency medical technician. Gerald believed this service was extremely rewarding knowing all that is done for those in need and their families. He is now a driver for the Mechanicsville Ambulance Service. Gerald's dedication to his community and Iowa make him a worthy recipient of the Iowan of the Day award.
Gerald's day of recognition will be Friday, August 13 at the Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, Gerald will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets, one year subscriptions to the Iowan and Iowa Gardening magazines, and special use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Gerald will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 13 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $80 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
