Courtney Burns, the newly appointed Director of Military History for the New York State Division of MIlitary and Naval Affairs

LATHAM, NY (10/11/2013)(readMedia)-- Glenville resident Courtney Burns has been named Director of Military History for the New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs.

Burns, who has more than 25 years of experience as a museum administrator, previously served as the curator for the New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs.

He began working at the Military Museum in 2003 and played a key role in creating and installing military history exhibits in New York Army National Guard armories across New York. The Armory Enhancement Program was intended to help Soldiers and visitors learn about the history of the units which served in the buildings they use. He also created exhibits on New York State military history which are displayed in the State Capitol

As Director of Military History he is responsible for the New York State Military History Museum and Veterans Research Center in Saratoga Springs as well as the historic artifacts which are held and displayed in the armories across New York from Long Island to Buffalo.

Burns holds a Master of Arts Degree in Museum History Studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from LeMoyne College.

Prior to working at the Military History Museum he worked as director of the Oysterponds Historical Society in Orient, as a curator at the Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages, as director of the Hallockville Museum Farm in Riverhead, and as a historical interpreter at the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse and the Fort Ontario Historic Site in Oswego, among other jobs.
