Goodwin Chevrolet Celebrates 80 Years of Serving Maine Drivers

BRUNSWICK, MAINE (08/07/2012)(readMedia)-- With eight decades of service since it first opened at the Brunswick Fireproof Garage on Maine St. in 1932, Goodwin Chevrolet is in rare company. To celebrate its 80th anniversary, the Maine Chevy dealer is holding customer appreciation days from Aug. 9 to Aug. 13 during its regular showroom hours, with free food and special deals on both sales and service items.

Five years after building Brunswick's Tontine Mall in 1927, Joseph Goodwin Sr. obtained a Chevrolet franchise and Goodwin Chevrolet got its start. The dealership remained in the same spot until May of 1975, when it moved to the current location at 195 Pleasant St. Since then, the business has rapidly grown into the Goodwin Motor Group, expanding to eight acres along the road and eventually branching out with new dealerships throughout Maine and New Hampshire.

"For a dealership to be in business for 80 years, they've got to have success getting repeat customers along the way, and we have always had a talented staff and a loyal group of patrons," said Frank Goodwin, son of Joseph Goodwin Sr. and current owner of Goodwin Motor Group. In 1988, Goodwin Motor Group expanded to include Goodwin's Volvo in Topsham, Maine, followed by a Mazda franchise that started sharing space with the Chevy dealership in Brunswick in 1992. Two other Maine Goodwin dealerships, Land Rover and Jaguar Scarborough, were founded in 1996, while 2001 brought the introduction of Goodwin Chevrolet Buick in Oxford, Maine and New Hampshire Land Rover dealer Land Rover Bedford.
